1 Corinthians 13:1-3 says, "If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I AM NOTHING. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Last year when I taught 4/5 grades, our class had a theme song we sang quite often. We bonded with each other through this song. The above verses are the theme of the song. With my new adventure in teaching 1st grade, I left that song behind. I felt I needed a new approach to try and teach 1st graders about love and to bond with them. The last few weeks I have been so moved by the sermons at church about love, I brought back the song in my new classroom and grade. Of course, the enthusiasm and bond were the same with first graders as they were for 4/5 graders. This helped me to remember that God's love never changes. After all, He did sacrifice His only son for us. We can't relate with God on that, but we can relate in knowing that having to sacrifice our child wouldn't be easy. In fact, it would be down right heartbreaking. Yet, God did it for us. It is the ultimate example of love. May we be reminded of that love as we strive to be just like God in showing love to others.
Feel free to check out our theme song about love. It is one of my favorite songs!
